"I have drawn for as long as I can remember, and my mother has kept many of my childhood drawings. For me, drawing is fundamentally a way of slowing down time so that I can study something, or someone, I am interested in for longer.

"I also use it to help me work out the composition for more complex paintings by doing lots of thumbnail sketches, which I can then work up into a larger drawing before tackling the canvas itself."
