The ten years following my fateful decision to drop out of art school were spent in an artistic no-man’s land, and after travelling a bit around Europe, I moved on to Japan, where I paid my way through university with a succession of teaching jobs. Drawing has always been very important to me, and I started drawing again as a way of getting back into something I had lost touch with for so long.

Now I draw as a way of starting a portrait or a complex painting, or just because I want to.
